History
Restaurant D/S Louise and Café Albertine are located on the quay-side of the old dock area, which housed the old “Verkstedhallen”, the workshops where they built the steam-ships. This is the only building remaining from Aker Mekaniske Verksted with great views, overlooking the fjord and the historical fortress Akershus Festning. Restaurant D/S Louise is in the part of the building where the mechanical workshops used to be. The cloakroom and toilettes at D/S Louise are placed in something they once called “Dumpa”- the dump that made it possible to get under the huge machine parts which were lifted in. Café Albertine is located in the old disel engine workshop, in the same building.
Restaurant D/S Louise is the only place on Aker Brygge that kept some of the history and items from Aker Mek. Verksted, over the fire place in the bar proudly hangs their original logo.
The picture illustrates “dining”, from the very same hall. The workmen in this picture are celebrating a snack and a beer as D/S “Bolette” is finished and ready to launch ca.1920’s.
